Finding inspiration for your destination wedding can come from so many places. Of course here on St Croix beach weddings are the craze, but I’m always so excited to see how my brides each interpret destination weddings differently and are inspired by varying elements of nature for their color scheme and decor.
Here are 5 Tips to get you started:
- Start with pictures you love – the beach, sunset, tropical landscape or anything else that inspires you. Collect them all on a Pinterest Board like our Beach Inspired Board. {Pinterest is the COOLEST free tool to hit wedding planning EVER! If you’re not familiar, Start Here}
- Take a look at the images that you’ve collected – look at the big picture. Are there a few colors/shades/hues that repeat? Do you see a theme? Are there elements like starfish or shells that jump out at you? Look for the key elements that create a pattern in your board.
- Narrow down your color palette to a neutral base color (this doesn’t have to white – think navy, beige, taupe, etc) and a couple of accent colors. The Perfect Palette is a great source for exciting and unique color palettes. There’s a handy tool in the upper right – click on your main color and it will pull up a plethora of ideas.
Or if you want something a little more sophisticated, try playing with Adobe’s Color Wheel – you can even upload an inspiring photo image and it will pull colors out for you, giving you varying palettes. - Figure out your style. Are you a modern bride who likes clean lines? Romantic? Whimsical? You’ll find that come together when looking back at your Pinterest Board if you haven’t already defined it.
- Use your color palette and design elements to create or choose your Save The Dates and Wedding Invitations. Remember these are the first impression that your guests will have of your wedding, let it make an impact by tying into your wedding theme! Use your Save-the-Dates to inspire other elements of your wedding design like decor and print pieces.
Your Color Palette can set the tone of your theme – here are three examples using orange that have very different looks:
